Discover the Volcanic Majesty: Unforgettable 4x4 Tour to Lagoa do Fogo!
The Lagoa do Fogo Volcano, located in the heart of the island of São Miguel, makes this jeep tour a diverse experience full of stunning landscapes. Along the way, we explore dirt paths that take us to discover up close the unique geothermal and water resources of this region.
We leave from Ponta Delgada, traveling along the south coast to the city of Lagoa, where you can admire the impressive beaches of volcanic origin and the magnificent crystal blue Atlantic Ocean. Our first essential stop will be at the Fábrica de Cerâmica Vieira, where you can learn about the fascinating artisanal process of clay production, from its modeling to the final product. This traditional pottery, known locally as the famous “Louça da Lagoa”, is part of the island’s cultural heritage.
We then continued towards the city of Ribeira Grande, taking a break at the iconic Praia de Santa Bárbara, one of the best-known black sand beaches on the island and the stage for a stage of the world surfing championship. After exploring the historic center of Ribeira Grande, we will head to the Miradouro da Ponta do Cintrão, from where you can admire the grandeur of the cliffs on the north coast, sculpted by the force of the ocean.
From this point, we begin the climb to the majestic Lagoa do Fogo, crossing dirt trails and small watercourses aboard the jeep. During the route, we will make an optional, not included, stop at the Caldeira Velha Natural Park, a true natural sanctuary full of endemic vegetation, where you can enjoy a relaxing bath in the thermal water pools, which reach temperatures of up to 38°C.
The highlight of our tour will be the visit to the stunning Lagoa do Fogo, an authentic natural treasure of the island, classified as a Nature Reserve since 1974. Here, you can marvel at the panoramic views of this volcanic lake, surrounded by green slopes and an atmosphere of incomparable tranquility. At Pico da Barrosa, you will also have the opportunity to admire a new perspective of the lagoon, as well as an impressive view over the south coast of the island.
